Meet Calvin

Looking To Know More?

Hi, I'm Calvin!

I’m a Scottish wedding filmmaker based in Stranraer, creating natural and cinematic wedding films throughout Scotland. I got started in the industry in 2020 when a friend, who was set to get married, said "you like cameras, wanna photo our wedding? We're only allowed 20 people so two birds one stone". And I loved it. Got a free dinner and a bottle of whiskey for it too. From there I spent a few years shooting photo or video, whatever I got hired for. More and more though I found myself drawn to filming weddings and that must have resonated with couples too because photo bookings slowed down. Now I focus exclusively on wedding videography and it's the best job in the world.

I’m drawn to honest storytelling, atmosphere, and the quieter moments that often become the most meaningful memories over time.

A wedding day with me

On a wedding day I usually arrive early enough to settle in, introduce myself to the people around me and get a feel for the day before the excitement really begins. If someone needs a bouquet taken downstairs, a jacket carried across the venue or a message passed between the two of you while you’re getting ready, I’m always happy to help. Sometimes an extra pair of hands makes all the difference.

For most of the day, though, my job is to blend in. I don’t believe your wedding should revolve around the camera, so I’ll spend far more time anticipating moments than creating them. Every now and then I might offer a gentle prompt if it helps things unfold naturally, but you’ll never spend your day being pulled away from your guests for the sake of the camera. Of course, if there’s a particular shot or moment that’s important to you, I’m always happy to make time for it.

Once the evening gets going, you’ll probably find me somewhere near the dance floor. If an early-2000s pop-punk anthem comes on, there’s every chance I’ll be singing along behind the camera.

Working together

I also believe the best weddings happen when all your suppliers work as one team. Whether that’s coordinating quietly with your photographer, giving your celebrant space or staying out of your guests’ way, I’m always thinking about how everyone can work together to give you the best possible day.

Outside weddings

Outside of weddings, I’m one of the organisers of Wigtownshire Tabletop Club, where we bring people together over board games, wargames and RPGs. It’s a big part of my life, and when I’m not editing a wedding film there’s a good chance I’m painting miniatures for the next game.

I genuinely believe the best wedding films come from couples who spend their day enjoying themselves rather than performing for the camera. If that sounds like your kind of wedding, I’d love to hear your plans.
